This would be a good time to consider replacing those naughty Easter eggs with delicious healthy Huggs!  Or if you want to remain traditional – grab a chocolate Hugg and pour on the chocolate sauce.

But Hugg has always planned to warm up its appeal with hot takeaway products that compliment the quality of its frozen yoghurts, smoothies and fair-trade coffees. Just in time for the first freeze of the winter Hugg is re-launching itself as Hugg Café. 

Hugg Cafe Manager Laura Stuart said, “We are delighted to be offering our customers delicious hot food as well as our popular healthy frozen yoghurt. Hugg Cafe is perfect for shoppers on the go who want to warm up in this cold weather!” 

The new star at Hugg café is the Gourmet Toastie.  Using fresh Devon-baked rustic breads filled with delicious gourmet fillings, toasted to perfection, this is a hearty snack to keep out the winter chill. The breads – organic white, harvest brown and sun-dried tomato are baked locally, but the fillings deliver a taste of the world.  ‘Smoked Bacon & Brie’, ‘Rich Meaty Bolognese sauce with Mozzarella Cheese’ and ‘Farmhouse Vegetarian’ are just some of the first on the menu, but Hugg are asking their Facebook fans to send in their own ideas.

What has become interesting to the Hugg shoppers are the example boards on the shops wall showing the work of the charity of which Hugg is a part – TTS Charity Group. To celebrate the Autumn season’s key looks and trends, special guests were invited to an exclusive sneak preview of the shows in Reiss. More than 80 guests enjoyed canapés from Carluccio’s and healthy delicious treats from Hugg Frozen Yoghurt.

Princesshay’s professional models were joined by Exeter City football captain Matt Taylor and goalkeeper Andy Marriott.

 Andy said: “The whole experience has been great fun and the professionals helped calm our nerves.”

Wayne Pearce, Princesshay director said: “This autumn we’ve pulled out all the stops to host Princesshay’s biggest outdoor fashion shows.”

As Princesshay’s charity partner, Hospiscare, has joined the team throughout the festival, running a shop then drop point next to Hugg to collect unwanted clothes for resale in their shops.

Participating retailers in the fashion shows include Debenhams, Fat Face, All Saints, Zara, Reiss, 2Seasons, Moss, LK Bennett, Hobbs, Musto, Next, Warehouse, Caroline Charles, Gap, Dorothy Perkins, Oasis, Coast, New Look, Jane Norman and Swarovski.

Exeter based TV chefs James Knight Pacheco & Alasdair Hooper put four Exeter Chief Players through their paces as honorary sous chefs, cooking up healthy protein rich meals, whilst talented chef Chris Archambault showcased some of his signature dishes using the finest local produce.

On a lovely sunny Saturday, the Exeter shoppers came along to Princesshay in their droves to sample, taste and savour their first Huggs. The overwhelming opinion was – Yogolicious!!

Couples, families and complete strangers  took turns on the ‘Hugg Spot’ to hugg each other…

Even better – we beat the UK record for a group hug.

The previous record set in 2009 in St Pancras Station, London was 122 in a one minute hug, but now we hold the record at 136! Although the crowd were shy at first, a group of young marines started the ball rolling, and the rest soon got hugging.

This delicious, healthy new experience, has definitely put Exeter on the map, and many smiles on many faces. We had a great day – thank you Huggxeter.

A frozen yoghurt outlet soon to open in Exeter aims to become a flagship Westcountry brand and revolutionise the image of the charity shop. 

Hugg is currently being fitted out at a prime location in the city’s Princesshay, ahead of an anticipated Bank Holiday weekend opening at the end of this month.

Selling a low-fat alternative to traditional ice cream, frozen yoghurt outlets have already become en vogue in London, a trend imported from the US and Australia. 

The team behind Hugg is so convinced that the venture will become a success, that a second Exeter location is already being considered along with further South West locations, including Bristol and Bath.

Yet profits not ploughed back into the business will not benefit a local entrepreneur, but will instead create opportunities for hundreds of jobless in the Westcountry
